Information on the Area

San Diego has an interesting history with real estate promotion. Back when the "new" downtown was being divided by Alonzo Horton, people lived in tents on their lots until they could clear away the brush and cactus. More frequently they sold out for a handsome profit before they could settle on the land. Buyers bought from maps without inspecting the purchase, and in turn sold to other speculators sight unseen. Even local people jumped on the bandwagon: housewives, lawyers, clerks, ministers, maids and businessmen began buying and selling. Some speculators paid as much as five-hundred dollars for a place in line to buy property. Horton stands out as a founding father of San Diego real estate and a promoter who envisioned the metropolis San Diego one day would become. .

Central Coast - In San Diego, the beach is a way of life, a source of pride and joy In San Diego, a defining factor in the famous California lifestyle. For some, the relationship is more personal: surfing and sailing, biking and running, swimming and diving fill their lives. For others, just having a view of San Diego's many coastal beaches and bays and enjoying the weather is enough. First-time visitors and life-long residents alike are regularly awestruck by the quality of life they enjoy.

North County Coastal - North County is one of the most rapidly growing sections of the United States, sprouting new neighborhoods, schools and shopping areas. Its cities and communities include: Cardiff by the Sea, Carlsbad, Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Encinitas, Fairbanks Ranch, La Costa, Leucadia, Oceanside, and Solana Beach. Residents and tourists alike are drawn to the North County beaches, which are as diverse as the region. North County Inland - North County Inland is home to the cities of Escondido, Poway, Rancho Penasquitos, Valley Center, Vista, and San Marcos. Trees, chaparral, horses, and hiking trails give this area a more rural flavor. As more people gravitate to San Diego, many have found their way to North County Inland where housing tends to be more affordable, and the traditional neighborhood is more common, than it is in San Diego Metro.

South County - At the southernmost end of the county, South Bay has beautiful beaches and great neighborhoods. It is unique because it has what no other region in the county has, an International Border. Only 20 minutes from downtown San Diego, the United States Mexico border is the gateway to Baja, California. As the county's population slowly spreads to outlying regions, the South Bay has not been ignored. As in North County Inland, many young neighborhoods, such as Eastlake and Otay Ranch are springing up to complete the older areas, like National City, Imperial Beach, and San Ysidro. Home prices are among the most affordable in the county.

East County - East San Diego County boasts an outdoors experience unlike any other in San Diego. It is home to the Cleveland National Forest, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, and nearby Anza Borrego State park among several others. For the gaming crowd, East San Diego County is home to several casinos and gaming resorts. And if you're looking for the ultimate cowboy hat or the perfect pair of boots, you're in the right place. Culture and sophistication can be found as well in east county at the East County Performing Arts Center in El Cajon.

Downtown - Downtown's largest neighborhood, East Village with the new Padres Ballpark, is experiencing some of the greatest residential growth in the County. Scattered throughout the area are artists' homes, studios, galleries and shops. Former warehouses, even an old church, have been transformed into charming residential lofts. A dramatic facelift is planned for 12th Avenue, linking the bay to Balboa Park. Thousands of new residential units will be constructed in East Village. In the Horton Plaza area there are luxury condominiums and apartments amidst the high-rise office buildings, retail, hotels, theaters and restaurants. Little Italy has been recently revitalized India Street is alive with restaurants, small cafes, galleries and specialty shops.
