La Jolla homes vary considerably in price, style and setting. La Jolla is not a typical modern suburb with endless rows of nearly identical tract homes. Rather it is a collection of custom homes which reflect building booms over many decades. The red roofed La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, a gathering place for the stars, dominates the distant shore from the Cove's vantage point. Their cosmopolitan lifestyle is clearly evident in the ultra-upscale village boutiques and perfectly manicured greens of Torrey Pines Golf Course. From the crashing waves along the shore to the estates on Mt. Soledad, homes in La Jolla are truly world class.

La Jolla Real Estate
The lucky 38,000 people who maintain residence in the heavenly seaside town of La Jolla live among Mediterranean-style architecture with a contemporary flair. You can look across the bay and see the true Gold Coast of Southern California. The retired admirals and army brass whose mansions dot the surrounding hills are thrilled by ocean sunsets.
There are actually dozens of neighborhoods in La Jolla, here are just a few of the main areas:
La Jolla Shores and Farms is a beautiful area in the northern part of La Jolla overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Stately eight-figure mansions and state-of-the-art medical research labs now line the bluffs where stables and pastures once lay along N. Torrey Pines Road and La Jolla Farms Road. Part of La Jolla’s appeal has always been access to the ocean, so it’s no surprise that La Jolla Shores, with access to the flattest and most user-friendly beach in the area, continues to attract ocean lovers.
The Village displays so much traditional charm and is full of activity, shops and people. As La Jolla is an old community, there are very few vacant lots, and there are many bungalows and cottage type dwellings along streets adjacent to Girard, Pearl and Prospect. Though always quaint, the village area has not necessarily drawn a high percentage of local buyers until the past few years. The Village is now in great demand. People want an urban lifestyle, the ability to live in town and walk to restaurants, the theater, and entertainment.
Bird Rock area, which includes Hermosa, is like a second city with a mile long commercial district along La Jolla Blvd. Major residential streets include Bird Rock Avenue, Chelsea and Hermosa. This area is currently undergoing a major re-development.
The Nautilus-Muirlands area - This area features larger lots which have views or back up to the golf course Near Nautilus Street. The Muirlands is characterized by big lots, traditional estates and a more stately elegance. The Muirlands continues to draw those who want more land.
Mt. Soledad is a majestic sentinel overlooking the city, both bays and the sea all in one incredible 360 degree vista! There are approximately seven gated communities on the hilltop, as well as many contemporary custom houses along streets including Cardeno, and Soledad Mt. Road.
UTC - University Towne Center is also known as the Golden Triangle for its high property values and high rise office buildings. Located east of the 5 Freeway and west of the 805, it has many new developments of condos along Nobel and Regents Road. This is the "newest" area. The houses in this area are either condos or are on small pieces of property.
Many houses are California ranch style houses, bungalows and hillside mansions, you find in the Muirlands, Farms and Nautilus areas. At any given time you will find several types of properties for sale. There are:
Newer condos/townhouses
Older condos/townhouses
Older houses
Remodeled or rebuilt properties
New construction
Remnants of the early developers and residents are still evident throughout the town, in the eclectic form of architecture, primarily Mediterranean-style, which has evolved over the decades. Multi-Million dollar mansions now adorn the cliffs and hillsides seemingly for as far as the eye can see, and million dollar cottages line the beautiful seven-mile stretch along the California shore.
